AIDA - Associazione Italiana per la Documentazione Avanzata [Italian Association for Advanced Documentation] - was founded in Rome in 1983 as a non-profit body to contribute to the definition, knowledge and development of documentation and information science as a cultural area, and to strengthen the profession of Italian "documentalist" (information specialist) as a highly specialised activity. AIDA is member of ECIA (European Council of Information Associations) and accepts its ethical code of I&D professionals, Ethical Principles for Information and Documentation Professionals, and the ECIA Statement on Intellectual Property and Copyright. As well as other European associations, AIDA is associated partner of  the DECIDoc/CERTIDoc projects, with the aim to develop a European certification of information professionals' competencies. AIDA regurarly holds the "Sessione italiana" [Italian Session] at the London  IOLIM dating from its foundation, by bi-lateral contacts with similar Italian and European associations. AIDA publishes the international quarterly on information sciences "AIDAinformazioni", both in print and in electronic version, the free electronic newsletter "AIDAlampi" as well as occasional publications  including manuals, monographs, and proceedings of national conferences, seminars and workshops.
